Winter is coming and so is cold season!

It’s impossible to prevent colds, and as soon as the temperatures drop everyone around us gets sick. The Wellness Survey for Singers revealed some great ideas for coping with cold symptoms. After all, vocalists are PROS at dealing with colds because they have no other choice… Here are some of the highlights:

  • Strong ginger/garlic/tumeric/manuka honey tea

  • Zicam, peroxyl rinse, tea with honey and lemon

  • Water, multi- vitamins

  • Chamomile tea with honey, Hot water with 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar and 1 tbsp honey, fruit popsicles, lots of vegetables, plenty of hydration and LOTS of sleep.

  • Anti inflammatory diet (no sugar, alcohol, gluten, dairy, low meat), take vitamin c

  • Gargle with salt water

  • Sleep (9+ hours before 11 pm) and water

  • Sleep, quiet, tea, netti pot, and medicine (Advil, mucinex, etc)

  • Air borne, chicken broth, extra fluids, more sleep, hot showers, meds on stand by for congestion cough etc

  • Zicam nasal swabs, elderberry syrup, throat coat tea with honey and lemon, lots of fluids and sleep, ibuprofen if necessary for fever.

  • Advil

  • Cold-eeze

  • Drink pineapple juice (natural antibiotic), eat garlic soup, and gargle with salt water

  • Neti pot so I can minimize post-nasal drip irritation on the vocal folds

  • No quick fix, but I use a Neti pot (Neil-med brand squeeze bottle), drink lots of water, orange juice, and potentially take some form of guaifenasin (mucinex) to help clear things out. Unless I absolutely have to for a performance, I limit singing.

  • zinc, lots of fluids

  • Cancel things and sleep in

  • Water, steaming, essential oils, sleep, cold meds, soup

  • I take Astragalus Daily. If I feel I'm coming down with something I take Zinc, garlic pills and Vitamin C
