Summer. Travel. FOOD.

Summer is here, and for many of us it's time to travel. When we are away from home, food isn't always accessible when we want it. Sometimes we must compromise and eat things we don't really want, or worse- go to bed hungry.

When it comes to being dependent on someone else for food, I suggest to always be prepared and have some snacks available so you can eat when YOU want them. Even the most rural places have a supermarket nearby, and you can plan ahead and stock up. If you have even a small refrigerator you can expand your selection and to some fancier items.

Here are some ideas for snacks and food while traveling:

If you travel or don't have a refrigerator:
- Cereals
- Granola bars
- Dried fruit
- Trail mix
- Crackers
- Turkey Jerky (look for organic options! this is a great source of protein!)
- Popcorn
- Salsa (but you do have to refrigerate it after opening... or eat it all in one sitting)
- Canned beans or soups

If you DO have a refrigerator, you can add:
- Milk/Almond milk
- Greek yogurt
- Hummus or other dips

More ideas:
- Fruit such as bananas, apples, berries, and avocado
- If you have a source of hot water, "meal in a cup" is a great option. Just check the ingredients to make sure it doesn't have too much sodium.
